Second-generation Q5 and SQ5 arrive in the Middle East starting from AED183,900 available at Audi dealerships now

Audi has launched its latest second-generation Q5 and hot SQ5 crossover models in the region with prices starting from AED183,900.

Longer and wider than before, the new crossover will battle with BMW’s X3 and Mercedes’ GLC in the premium segment, offering a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit rated at 252 horsepower and 370Nm of torque from 1,600rpm. As the sole Q5 option this engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels, capable of zero to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds.

The sporty, slightly longer and lower SQ5 is the highlight and the second option available, powered by a force-fed 3.0-litre V6 producing 354 horsepower and 500Nm of torque from 1,370rpm. This hot crossover sprints to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds and tops out at a governed 250km/h. That makes it a full second quicker than something like the updated Mk7 Volkswagen Golf GTI. In the UAE the SQ5 stars from AED249,000 which is right on the money for this segment, and an even match for some newcomers like the AED250,000 2018 Volvo XC60.

Customers can choose from 12 exterior colours as standard and pick one of three new equipment lines — Base, Sport, Design — in addition to the S line package. A power tailgate is standard across the board but depending on your pocket you can spec optional kit such as a new 12.3-inch display running Audi’s latest-gen infotainment system, head-up display unit, up to 21-inch wheels (starting with 17s), and even massaging seats and a high-end Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system.

The new design is supposed to emphasise all-wheel drive with more pronounced lines, and you’ll note the faux rear diffuser too. Crucially the steel and aluminum structure saves 90kg compared to the old model, improving aerodynamics to boot and lowering noise and vibrations. Cargo capacity has also increased slightly, by 10 liters for a 610-litre total. The interior is totally new with a digital focus and options like the Audi tablet and rear seat entertainment.

In the SQ5, you also get a sportier eight-speed ‘box with shorter gear ratios, a rear-axle driving bias, and a new electromechanical power steering system. Look out for a full review on Auto Middle East soon.
