Favorite Moments of the 2014 American Country Countdown Awards Show

The inaugural American Country Countdown Awards is now in the books, and show hosts Florida Georgia Line went home with the most awards, though Jason Aldean took home the Artist of the Year award. Here are our seven favorite moments from the program.

1. Pet Sleeves

© Provided by Country Weekly It’s strange that we wonder such things, but Florida Georgia Line is clearly thinking about it as well. Donning tear-away tuxedos that concealed their preferred sleeveless shirts underneath, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley had a little fun at the expense of their own stage clothing. At least we think so.

2. “Platinum” Praise

© Provided by Country Weekly Singing the title track from her excellent album Platinum, Miranda Lambert shone through some of the show’s humdrum early performances. She even patted her perfect hairdo with a little glint in her eye, because we all know she’s got it.

3. Oh Right He Was in Brooks & Dunn

© Provided by Country Weekly American Country Countdown host Kix Brooks and Jerrod Niemann’s stripped-down duet on Brooks & Dunn’s “Rock My World (Little Country Girl)” was a nice (if too brief) interlude that felt loose and friendly. But where the heck was Ronnie?

4. One for the Kipper

© Provided by Country Weekly Despite the injustice of having to sing an old single, Breakthrough Artist winner Kip Moore was thoroughly magnetic in his performance of “Hey Pretty Girl” and his acceptance speech was sincerely touching. What’s not to love about that?

5. Circle Track Logic

© Provided by Country Weekly Kudos to Eric Church, for proving that you don’t have to sing fast songs on awards shows. His new single, “Talladega,” from The Outsiders, was a lovely intimate moment that could work just as well in an arena as it does in a living room. And he dropped a quote of the night contender in his Album of the Year speech: “Albums matter more now than ever.”

6. And That’s Why She’s an Icon

© Provided by Country Weekly Nash Icon Award winner Reba McEntire jumping up to sing her beloved smash “Fancy” with Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson was clearly the night’s “wow” moment. Not that there was ever any doubt, but Reba can more than hold her own with these young women she influenced. We need to hear some of her new music, like, yesterday.

7. Call the PoPo

Hank Williams Jr.’s performance of “All My Rowdy Friends Are Comin’ Over Tonight” was unbridled, totally bonkers fun. If today’s big songwriters run out of ideas for the next party tune, Hank Jr.’s life is definitely fertile (and whiskey-irrigated) territory.
