Emirati gets life sentence over Daesh connection

An Emirati man, who has links with the terror group Daesh, was handed down a life sentence on Tuesday.

The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeals convicted the Emirati Kh. S. A. S., on Tuesday for promoting the terror group and encouraging youth to join the organisation to wage jihad.

The court also ordered the confiscation of his computers, cameras and other equipment which were seized from his possession. He was also asked to pay the expenses of the case.

In another case, the court sent SH M. A, also and Emirati, to seven years in jail and to be kept under watch for three years for insulting and defaming the symbols and policies of the UAE and damaging the country's relations with other nations.

The court also ordered to confiscate the equipment he used for the purpose and delete the data retrieved from him. He was also ordered to pay the court charges.

In a third case, the court ordered Emirati A. A.A.Y, to stay behind bars for five years after being covicted of trying to join Daesh and go to Syria via Turkey.The other charges slapped on the suspect include keeping close contact with the social media accounts of terror groups; publicising articles, videos that glorify Daesh; and calling the youth to join the group.

In the fourth case, the court sent A. M. A. N., an Emirati man found to be a threat to national security, to a counselling centre of the Interior Ministry. A six-month travel ban was also imposed on him.
