A 29-year-old man has gone on trial in Dubai Court of First Instance for sexually assaulting a teenager.

According to public prosecution records, the Emirati man invited the 13-year-old boy, a Syrian, to meet him at a mall where he earlier alleged he would wait for him with a mutual friend. But the accused showed up alone at the mall and then lured the victim into his car for a ride.

He took him to to a dark area of Al Warqa - away from residential buildings - where he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim under duress, after centrally locking his car. The Emirati is believed to have threatened the boy that he would make his friends assault him too if he 'breached his trust' and spoke to anyone about the incident.

The alleged assault took place on June 8 and was reported to Al Rashidya police station.

Recounting the incident, the boy said: "He invited me to the mall and when I reached there he called me to say his friend would not join us. He took me in his car and drove to a dark and remote area in Al Warqa, where he parked as he began to talk 'nervously' to me, which scared me. He then showed me how to massage his back."

After sexually assaulting the boy, the defendant gave him Dh120 to take a cab before dropping him in Al Qusais.
