Sheikh Mohamed approves Dh5.6b budget for food research

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, approved a Dh5.6 billion budget intended to support research into water scarcity and food security.

Sheikh Mohamed also said that the research and development period will be conducted over the next five years.

Food security has been a priority, with the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman improving their food security positions between 2012 and 2017, according to The EIU's Food Security Index. Saud Abu Al-Shawareb, Managing Director of Dubai Industrial Park noted that the UAE food security ministry is going through intense efforts to improve food security. "We are happy with the initiatives taken by the government in terms of long-term planning for food security," he said.
