Angelina Jolie has spoken out about her divorce from Brad Pitt, saying that she "lost [herself] a bit" when her "relationship with Brad was coming to an end."

Speaking to French magazine Madame Figaro, the 44-year-old actress described her split from the 55-year-old Oscar winner as "a complicated moment" and that she "didn't recognise [herself] anymore."

After tying the knot in 2014, the couple who share six children — girls Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, Vivienne, 11, and boys Maddox, 18, Pax, 15, and Knox, 11 — filed for divorce after first getting together in 2004.

As their relationship ended, Jolie said she felt, "almost insignificant, even if it wasn't necessarily obvious. I felt a deep and genuine sadness, I was hurt."

The Maleficent star told the publication that since their breakup, she has been able to "reconnect with this humility and this insignificance…all these things settle in you and remind you of how lucky you are of being alive."

Speaking of what the future holds, Jolie told the magazine that she is in a "period of transition, like a homecoming, a return to [herself]."

Just days ago, Jolie made a candid admission to E! News after she was told that she appeared as strong as her onscreen character in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

"There have been times in my life where I have felt — and maybe I've hidden them well from the public — where I have not felt free, I have not felt safe, I have not felt, like, free of harm," she admitted. "I have felt small. I have felt cornered. And it has taken a lot to find that again, probably more of that today than I was in the last four years."

Last month, the Mr. and Mrs. Smith actress shared a similar sentiment to E! News.

"I'm like everybody and... especially these last few years haven't been the easiest, and I haven't felt very strong," she said. "There's something when you're not feeling very strong, where you push yourself. And I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to play these kinds of characters, that pull out every bit of strength I have and that remind me that I can be strong."

According to US Weekly, a source revealed to the outlet that Jolie "will never get married again" and that she felt that Pitt "pressured her" into marriage.
