An official cause of death has been revealed for musician Benjamin Keough, the son of Lisa Marie Presley

A representative from the LA County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office released its findings on July 14 (US time), confirming the death was a suicide. He was 27.

Benjamin, who is the grandson of Elvis Presley and looked just like the late singer, was found dead on July 12 at his mother's Calabasas home in California. It was reported Lisa Marie, 52, was not home at the time, but a rep for the singer has said she is "inconsolable" over the incident.

"She is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter Riley," her representative Roger Widynowski told People. "She adored that boy. He was the love of her life."

The findings come after a rare interview Lisa Marie gave to Healthy Living magazine in 2014 resurfaced online. In the sit-down, she opened up about her children and how she was "ferociously protective" of them.

The star shares Benjamin and daughter, 31-year-old actress Riley Keough, with her first husband Danny Keough. Lisa Marie is also mum to 11-year-old twin girls, Harper and Finley, who she shares with ex-husband Michael Lockwood.

"We all stay together. We are all very close. Wherever I am, they have their rooms and live with me," she told the publication. "We all try to stay close as much as possible. Like, in the same room, preferably for me. I don't like it when they are far away in any way."

"I am very protective," she added. "I just smother them in love and I am also ferociously protective. They are my priority. That's what I do. That's what I care most about. I keep them close to me and make sure they are happy and healthy."

But the mum-of-four admitted it was challenging parenting older children.

"When they get older sometimes I don't think it ever ends. When they get past 18 I think their problems just get bigger to be honest, that's always a struggle," she explained. "We all kind of hold each other up; we are all each other's best friends. I'm theirs but I am also their mother… None of us are happy if we haven't seen each other past a week or two. It's just a normal family."

So close is the family that Lisa Marie refers to herself as "Mama Lion" when around her kids.

"Mama Lion with cubs," she captioned a photo of herself surrounded by her children in July 2019.
