Matty J has chosen his final two bachelorettes.

After surviving months of single dates, group dates, couple dates, cat fights and far too many rose ceremonies, Gold Coast Nanny Tara Pavlovic, 27, was sent home on Tuesday night without a rose despite being a favourite in the lead up to the finale.

The penultimate episode of the reality dating competition saw The Bachelor, Matthew 'Matty J' Johnson, take his chosen three on extravagant solo dates.

First was 31-year-old accessories designer Laura Byrne, who got to relive an earlier skydiving date with some paragliding over the ocean before being whisked to a mansion for a romantic candlelit wine where she was the first to tell Matty that she was falling in love with him.

It was "full steam ahead" (according to the useful narration) for 30-year-old West Australian Elise Stacy, as they went on a steam train ride together. She repeated an earlier assertion that she doesn't fall in love easily with people, but she was most definitely falling in love with Matty J.

In a thoughtful piece to camera Matty revealed that in that moment there was nothing else he wanted to hear.

"When I think about what kind of partner I want, Elise is everything I can think of, I couldn't ask for anything more," he said, perhaps preparing viewers for what was to come.

She was quick to tell him that she wanted the whole thing to be over because she didn't want the other two girls getting in the way and didn't want to be told Matty had to leave all the time.

In the end, it was Matty telling her to leave.

In a mercifully short rose ceremony, for the viewers and bachelorettes alike, Matty handed Laura the first rose, then quickly gave Elise one, leaving Tara shocked and waiting for the limo back to her other life.

As she was driven away from Matty J and the fame that comes with being his final chosen one, Tara revealed her greatest fear was to have her heart broken.

"And here I am, with my heart broken," she lamented.

Fear not, the heart doesn't appear to have remained broken for long, various reports indicate she has since gotten close to one of the bartenders engaged to keep the bachelorettes cheerful in the mansion.

On Thursday night, Matty will hand out his final rose after consulting his mum and taking Laura and Elise on an overseas trip to Thailand which, for one, will end in great sadness and an outpouring of national affection.
