Western Sydney appears to have started the tactical games ahead of the A-League grand final with injured striker Mark Bridge ruled out of the official squad but still believed to be a chance of playing.

Bridge has been racing the clock to be fit for the decider against Brisbane after rolling his ankle late in last week's 2-0 semi-final win over Central Coast, and has had his left foot in a moon boot ever since.

Although it initially appeared impossible Bridge would recover in time, coach Tony Popovic rated him a "50/50 chance" of making it saying: "If he can be training with the group for a couple of days at the end of this week he's a chance."

Bridge had his first training session with the team and is set to travel with the side to Brisbane.

Yet Popovic omitted him for the official squad list handed to Football Federation Australia (FFA).

The Wanderers have previously ruled out players only for them to be part of the side a few days later.

While there is no official punishment for the move it is believed the FFA are considering issuing fines to clubs who do this from next season.

Should Bridge fail to recover in time forward Labinot Haliti is his likely replacement.

Brisbane has named an unchanged squad for the sold-out Lang Park encounter with coach Mike Mulvey being more transparent in naming his side and giving striker Dimitri Petratos until the last minute to prove his fitness.

Petratos also picked up an ankle injury in the Roar's semi-final win over Melbourne Victory last week.

Brisbane Roar squad: Michael Theo, Matthew Smith (c), Shane Stefanutto, Ivan Franjic, Besart Berisha, Steven Lustica, Henrique, Liam Miller, Jade North, Diogo Ferriera, James Donachie, Jean Carlos Solorzano, Matt McKay, Luke Brattan, Jack Hingert, Matthew Acton (gk), Thomas Broich, Dimitri Petratos (Two to be omitted)

Western Sydney Wanderers squad: Ante Covic (GK), Shannon Cole, Adam D'Apuzzo, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Jerome Polenz, Labinot Haliti, Mateo Poljak, Tomi Juric, Aaron Mooy, Brendon Santalab, Matthew Spiranovic, Kwabena Appiah, Youssouf Hersi, Iacopo La Rocca, Jerrad Tyson (GK), Shinji Ono, Dean Heffernan, Jason Trifiro (Two to be omitted)
