Port Adelaide grabbed its chance to go a game clear at the top of the ladder, as the Power beat Fremantle by three goals at Adelaide Oval.

Fremantle held the lead for most of the day, but Port Adelaide crushed last year's grand finalists with a five goals-to-two final quarter to win 13.16 (94) to 11.10 (76).

The Power kicked the first goal of a tight contest at the eighth minute mark through Jay Schulz, but the home side only led by nine points at quarter-time.

Goals to Nick Suban and Matthew Pavlich gave Fremantle the lead at the five-minute mark of the second quarter, and the visitors then led through the second and third terms.

The Power brought the margin back to five points at the final change, but when Matt White kicked a goal 75 seconds into the final quarter it put the hosts in front again.

Three behinds then gave Port Adelaide a four-point advantage, and then the Power turned a Dockers turnover into a goal where White kicked his second of the quarter.

The Power had the Dockers on the run by now and Jasper Pittard gave the home side more breathing space with a snap from 35 metres at the 10-minute mark.

By the time Nat Fyfe responded at the 21-minute mark, the game was all but gone for the Dockers.

Port Adelaide goes into the bye at 7-1, while the Dockers, who face Geelong at Subiaco Oval next week, now slip to 4-4 for the season.
