Sabrina Pal has even won a national modelling competition after dropping three dress sizes through Muay Thai, a form of martial art.

The 21-year-old described herself as being ‘chubby’ when she was a schoolgirl in Bedworth, Coventry, but now her looks are winning her great success in the modelling world.

She told the Coventry Telegraph : “I was really chubby, my parents got divorced and I started comfort eating,” she said.

“From a very young age, from about eight or nine, I was getting bullied left, right and centre and I was so down about it.

“My dad said I should try a sport and so I just hopped onto the internet to find something to do.”

Sabrina would always go straight to her room and play on her computer after school, but it all changed for her when her dad suggested she take up a sport.

A few weeks after her dad’s recommendation, Sabrina said she wanted to take up Muay Thai and she hasn’t looked back since.

Her dad Roshan was shocked by her decision at first. He said: “I was quite taken back, thinking that she would get hurt, and come back with bruises or a broken nose, but nevertheless, Sabrina and her friend decided to join the club.

“Sabrina used to go to the classes twice a week with her friend, but her friend decided not to continue. However, Sabrina persisted and she began to enjoy the sport and made a new circle of friends, and built up her confidence.”

Since taking up the sport, 21-year-old Sabrina has gone on to take part in tournaments, and has won several medals and trophies.

She added: “I went to a Muay Thai aerobic class and I stayed to watch training afterwards, and I thought it was interesting so I went the next week and I really enjoyed it.

“I started going four times a week and I got really into it.”

Sabrina was a size 14 when she started Muay Thai aged 15 and is now a size 8, and it wasn’t just her fitness that it improved, she has said it did wonders for her social skills.

She said: “It was great for my social interaction, we go to tournaments to support each other and then we go out for food after.

“I think without Thai boxing I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

About a year and a half ago, Sabrina was approached by a photographer, did a photoshoot and was really happy with how it turned out, giving her the confidence to enter a national competition, which she won and became the face of an Asian bridal boutique, Sharons Couture.

She added: “It felt really great to win and to do something I did not believe I had the confidence to do. I was shocked.”

Sabrina is now studying Biomedical Science at De Montfort University in Leicester and although she loves boxing and modelling she says that becoming a doctor is her ‘dream’.

She lives in Leicester now but goes back to her family home in Coventry every weekend and trains at Evolution Gym in Stoney Stanton Road.
