Aussies share tight things they do to save money they are 'proud of'
Hundreds of Australians have shared the tight things they do to save money that they are 'unashamedly proud of'.
Fans of the Markdown Addicts Australia page posted on Instagram, where they shared their favourite money-saving tricks.
While some had obvious ideas like making double the food and taking the leftover half to work for lunch, others had more outside-the-box tactics.
One woman even confessed to sitting in the dark with her partner with only the light of the TV for comfort.
'We sit in total darkness at night! Apart from the light of the TV, she wrote.
'When we have people visiting we have to turn the lights on at night and it nearly kills me! Haha.'
Others said they always buy a large hot chocolate and ask for two cups, which they they then divide between their two children.
'I buy clothes up to three years ahead for my kids when they're on clearance for a few dollars each,' one mum wrote.
'Whenever we go out, I pack my own Diet Coke cans in my bag,' another said.
'I buy them on special for about 65c per can compared to buying them for $3 each.'
Some said they'll always bulk up their meals with vegetables and buy meat and mince when it's on special, so they can freeze it for later.
Many other extreme budget habits included keeping old crusts of bread to make breadcrumbs, as well as cooking up old apple skins when the fruit starts to wrinkle - which is perfect for making apple sauce.
