Country music legend Dolly Parton has arrived on the 2019 Grammy Awards red carpet, shocking onlookers with her risque outfit.

The 73-year-old singer and actress wore a figure-hugging bright red dress, embroidered with silver and red jewels.

She accessorised her look with matching red shoes and long red acrylic nails.

Dolly is being honoured tonight, with musicians Katy Perry, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves paying tribute to the 9 To 5 singer during the show.

She will also hit the stage herself, to perform one of her songs from the new Netflix movie Dumplin, which also stars Jennifer Aniston.

On the weekend, Dolly was also honoured as MusiCares Person Of The Year. She was the first country star to be honoured with the award.

"I truly am honored to be the MusiCares Person Of The Year and the first country artist to be honored," she said.

"I can truly feel the love in this house tonight ... it's a long long way from hills of East Tennessee to the Hollywood Hills, but it has been a wonderful journey."

"All of my life I have been known for two things - well, not them - I've also been known as a singer and songwriter too," she joked.

And she spoke about working for years in a male-dominated industry that often disrespects women.

"I have actually worked with so many wonderful men and I've never met a man that I didn't like and I've never met a man whose a-- I couldn't kick if he didn't treat me with the right respect," she said.

"If something is bagging, sagging or dragging, I'll tuck it, suck it or pluck it," she joked to The Guardian in 2011.

"This is just who I am! It's like what I always say: I may look fake but I'm real where it counts."

While Dolly says she doesn't like to "promtote" plastic surgery, she's all for women doing what they need to do to feel good about themselves.

"If you've got the nerve, the desire and you've got the money, then you should do it, if that's going to make you feel better," Dolly told CNBC.

"I'm not out promoting it, I probably never would have told people about it if I hadn't gotten caught. But I wasn't going to lie about it," she said.

"If I see something that is bothering me, seeing as I have to be in front of the camera and I want to look good, I just go do it."
