Car companies don’t thrive by listening to the purists.

They’re big businesses and, ultimately, they need to make money in order to stay afloat. That’s why General Motors dumped Saab, Land Rover stopped Defender production and Fiat is slowly euthanizing Lancia.

Market forces can’t stop us from including these cars and many others in our product planning daydreams, though. In a paradisal world where all auto-makers are profitable and business cases make themselves, here are some of the cars we’d want to see reinvented for the 21st century:
