Eddie McGuire admits he had second thoughts about quitting radio show

He is preparing up to broadcast his final Triple M radio show this week, after 11 years on-air. 

But Eddie McGuire, 56, has admitted it he initially had second thoughts about pulling the plug on his top-rating Melbourne breakfast show.

Speaking to Confidential, Eddie conceded that he and his co-host Luke Darcy will find it extremely difficult to say goodbye.

'We'll miss everything about it. Even as I was reading out (my decision to quit the show), I was wondering if I should hit the dump button because you don't want to leave, and you never leave, but sometimes it comes to a serendipitous position, which it has.' 

The 'dump button' prevents the previous 10 seconds of broadcast from going to air.

While Eddie is preparing for an emotional goodbye on Friday, he admitted that there's a chance he will one day return.

'I've said goodbye here once before, and came back, so you never know,' he admitted, referring to his departure, and eventual return, to the Richard Stubbs breakfast show.  

He added: 'If I ever get the chance to work with Luke Darcy again, I'll grab it with both hands.'   

It comes after Eddie told the Herald Sun that his mother's death in August prompted decision to step down from his popular radio show.

He also revealed that his co-host Luke had experienced a similar loss when his father, David Darcy, died that same month. 

'Darce's father was such a great friend of the show, and so well loved. My mum passed away two days later, but we knew it was imminent. My view is, if you don't learn from this year, you won't learn from much,' Eddie said.

The former Nine CEO explained that he had been 'hurting for a while' with the weight of the decision, but realised the early alarms, daily commitments and the feeling of 'jet lag' was pointing towards his need to 'reflect and recharge'.
