Handcuffed man returns to scene of suspicious death logo 25/03/2019

Detectives probing a suspicious death at a Melbourne home have brought a man in handcuffs back to the crime scene.

Emergency services were called to the home on Mount Eagle Way, in Wyndham Vale, about 8.50pm yesterday and discovered the body of a 49-year-old in the backyard.

9News understands a man knocked on a neighbour’s door and allegedly said he’d bashed the victim to death.

That man was then arrested on the front lawn of a nearby house. His hands were covered in paper bags as he spoke to police.

Another male suspect was also arrested.

The pair - aged 41 and 43 – have spent today being quizzed by police in custody.

Charges are yet to be laid.

This afternoon, police brought a man in handcuffs and a blue jumpsuit back to the scene. 9News is yet to receive confirmation as to whether the man is one of the suspects.

Resident Julie Cartwright, whose home is located on the back fence of where the body was found, said she called police to the home last week.

“It’s hard, another life lost for no reason… it’s really sad, I really feel for all the emergency services,” Ms Cartwright said.

“It’s scary, you don’t think it would be out your front door.”

Another neighbour said his father heard a commotion about 2am yesterday, telling 9News he heard two male voices fighting.

Others in the area said they didn’t notice anything suspicious until police arrived at the home last night.

Investigations are ongoing.
