NSW proposes raising dam wall to ‘future proof’ Sydney
The New South Wales government will fast track a plan to raise the wall of Sydney’s Warragamba dam which it says will protect western Sydney from major floods. There have been four major flood events in the catchment in the past 18 months. The project is controversial with opponents arguing that raising the dam wall will destroy environmental and indigenous cultural sites in the Blue Mountains.
