Police had to be called in to deal with unruly flyers and a customer urinated near the departure gate, the passenger told Daily Mail Australia, after one of the budget carrier's flights was delayed by six hours.

Flight TT263 on June 8 was due to depart at 5.25pm but the Boeing 737 aircraft did not leave Sydney until 11.26pm, resulting in a 12.35am arrival into Melbourne.

The passenger, who did not wish to be named, said the delay left some flyers angry and aggressive.

'The police were there as people were yelling and throwing rubbish,' they said.

'They were yelling "Just tell us what is going on so we can get another flight". One guy said he missed a meeting which cost him $30,000.

'Someone then urinated on the floor because Sydney airport was closed. The bathrooms were being cleaned.'

Sydney Airport is closed from 11pm to 4am due to a government-imposed curfew but Daily Mail Australia understands the toilets were serviceable at the time.

Another passenger on the flight posted on the Tigerair Australia Facebook page the departure time was constantly pushed back and described the delay as a 'disaster'.

'Last update was that departure would be at 9.45pm, and now customers are irate, frustrated and disappointed that we are all still waiting around with no indication of our movements,' they wrote.

'...The way this flight has been handled has been beyond disgusting and embarrassing....'

A Tigerair Australia spokesperson said the flight was delayed due to an engineering issue.

'We understand that delays can be frustrating for our customers and we work hard to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum,' the spokesperson said.

'Further, the safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority and upholding the highest of safety standards underpins our operations at all times.'

The Australian Federal Police were contacted for comment.
