Student paramedic, 23, suffers a broken eye socket after being bashed with a deodorant can in a road rage attack

A man has been charged after a horrific road rage beating left a young student paramedic with a split eyebrow and broken eye socket.

Joshua Burke, 21, became enraged after 23-year-old paramedic, known as Erin, flashed her headlights at him after he cut her off driving along Bungower Road in Sommerville, east Melbourne on Thursday.

After pulling over by the side of the road, Burke approached her car and began to bash her over the head, delivering multiple blows using a can of deodorant, Nine News reports.

Erin suffered was taken to hospital with serious injuries to her face, including a broken eye socket and had to get her eyebrow super-glued back together.

The student paramedic may have to undergo surgery to repair her eye. 

He also smashed her car window and kicked her side mirror.

After the incident, Burke fled the scene in his vehicle but was later found and arrested by police. 

He has been charged with a string of offences which include assaulting an emergency worker, intentionally causing serious injury, possessing cannabis and a controlled weapon.

Burke was scheduled to appear at Frankston Magistrates Court on Friday but court was adjourned.
