Public servants facing "rotten Christmas" after PM's cuts: Albanese

December 6, 2019. Federal Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese speaking to media at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Offices in Sydney about public servants following sweeping changes to government departments announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison. Albanese says he is concerned that those government workers will face a rotten Christmas with job insecurity looming over their holidays. "I'm concerned that five departmental heads lost their jobs yesterday at the same time Angus Taylor has kept his," he says. The move was simply a centralisation of power to avoid interference from incompetent ministers, Albanese says. The number of government departments is being reduced from 18 to 14, with five of the nation's top bureaucrats axed from February 2020. (AAP VIDEO/Andrew Leeson)
