The Australian was defeated in a ninth-round TKO as Crawford backed up his pre-bout trash talk and took home the WBO Welterweight Title, but FitzSimons was less than impressed.

“I don’t want to watch two men batter each other into submission in a sport where they’re trying to knock each other unconscious and put brain damage on each other, ” he said.

“I don’t want it. I want it stopped.”

Following Horn’s defeat to Crawford, it was speculated that the 29-year-old Australian would follow up with an all-Australian clash against veteran Anthony Mundine. However, FitzSimons implored both men to give up the sport.

“I like Anthony Mundine but I mean this as a serious point: Anthony, you’re 40 years old. You’ve been doing this for 17 years. It is not safe,” he said.

Mate, you’ve done the big payday, stop.”

“It is not safe and it is not safe for us to promote it and it is not safe for people to go. I want it stopped.”

While FitzSimons did admit to enjoying the sight of two men attempting to take each other down, he cautioned the sport due to the mental after-effects that can be suffered by boxers.

Viscerally, in my tummy, I love it,” he said.

“The vision of two men going hard at each other is an absorbing spectacle.

“In my head, once you understand the damage that is done by constant concussions, you cannot support it.”
