This is the moment a giant alligator casually strolled through a field of stunned tourists - like something out of Jurassic Park.

People couldn't believe their eyes when the gigantic beast wandered across the mud path just inches from them.

The woman who filmed this incredible scene that is causing ructions on social media swears it is all perfectly genuine - and not 'fake'.

She claims to have shot the footage in Lakeland, Florida - around 40 miles from where a two-year-old boy was killed by an alligator at a Walt Disney World hotel at Lake Buena Vista last June.

Social media commentators who have viewed the footage online however can't believe the size of the reptile - suggesting that there is some trickery or special effects afoot.

Concerned others issued stark warnings never to find yourself near one of these beasts while it lays on the ground.

Local Kim Joiner posted the video to the Circle B Bar Reserve Polk Nature Discovery Center group on Facebook on Sunday.

She said: "I love Circle B. Nature at its best.”

The video begins with a scene of a grass path and some cautious tourists waiting with binoculars at the end of it for something they are apparently expecting.

Then the nose of something suddenly appears out of the tall grass.

After it takes a few measured paces forwards it's clear this is a giant beast - who is probably aware it is being watched.

The alligator continues on its journey through the path to the grass bank on the other side as the tourists watch open-mouthed.

The size of its tail alone appears longer than the height of an adult human.

The video has already been shared more than 15,000 times.

Joiner told WKMG the video is real and reckoned the alligator was at least 12 feet long.

"It looks like a dinosaur," News 6 anchor Justin Warmoth said.

His colleague Kirstin O'Connor asked: "Is that real?"

"Yes, it's real," Joiner insisted to the station's social media producer Shannon McLellan.

The station said when she was asked to guess the weight, Joiner simply replied: "Huge!"

Kirstin added: "It seems too big to be real. That's crazy."
