Jamie Oliver, the former Naked Chef, is to partner with Royal Caribbean for a new restaurant venture on board a cruise ship.

The celebrity chef, who has partnered with the cruise line Royal Caribbean International (RCI) for the new cruise dining venue, is the latest recruit in a growing stable of high-profile chefs at sea.

RCI's newest resort ships, Quantum of the Seas (launching this autumn in New York) and Anthem of the Seas (sailing on its maiden voyage in spring 2015 from Southampton) will exclusively feature a Jamie’s Italian. Also debuting on Quantum of the Seas will be an experiential restaurant called Wonderland.

Oliver said he is "thrilled" to debut his first restaurants at sea on the new Quantum-class ships. “Royal Caribbean shares my approach to food and dining, which is to serve simple, fresh ingredients in a warm, inviting ambience. I couldn’t be more excited to bring my love of Italian cooking to their guests.

"It’s going to be brilliant!” he added.

The first Jamie Oliver eatery at sea is said to be part of Royal Caribbean's plans to "reimagine" dining at sea by offering flexible dining in smaller, more contemporary restaurants that reflect what the modern day family looks for on a holiday.

Last month P&O Cruises announced that television chef James Martin and master pâtissier Eric Lanlard will join its culinary line-up, including Marco Pierre White, the Hell's Kitchen 'bad-boy' chef who once referred to Oliver as a "fat chef with a drum kit", on board its new ship Britannia. Martin will be opening the first cookery school on board a British ship.
