Doctor makes argument for pill testing

July 16, 2019. Dr Hester Wilson, a Sydney-based GP and addiction specialist, speaks outside the NSW Coroners Court at Lidcombe after giving evidence at an inquest into the drug-related deaths of six young people at NSW music festivals between December 2017 and January 2019. Dr Wilsons says pharmacists could play a role in pill testing trials and results out of the UK suggest on-site pill testing has curbed drug-taking in some instances. Dr Wilson pill testing could play a role in moderating drug-taking behaviour. Dr Wilson says young people "don't want to get sick". "We know from research that if it is a dangerous substance they will throw it out," Dr Wilson says. "We know that it does change what they do for the majority of young people."(AAP Video/Sarah McPhee)
