I wish we could have done it for Bob: Shorten concedes

May 19, 2019. Opposition Leader Bill Shorten concedes defeat at the party's election night event in Essendon Fields in Melbourne. Shorten speaking to supporters says he called Prime Minister Scott Morrison to congratulate him and says for the good of the nation everyone must accept the result. He also says he will be standing down as leader of the party after the loss. "Labor's next victory will belong to our next leader and I am confident that victory will come at the next election," he says. He also says he wishes he could have one to honour Bob Hawke's memory.
