This is a national problem: Vic Premier calls for Commonwealth action on dangerous cladding

July 16, 2019. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews speaks to media about the release of the Victorian Cladding Taskforce report which, among its 35 recommendations, called for a cladding remediation fund to help remove flammable cladding from many buildings around the state. Andrews says, beyond the state level, a national approach is needed to reform the building industry as many construction companies often disappear after a building has been completed, leaving nobody accountable. "Almost as soon as the last nail is driven, the company folds up and there's no one to go after. We think that is something that should be on the national agenda," Andrews says. He also suggests moves by the federal government could make it easier for those affected by dodgy building practices to sue. (AAP Video/Alex Murray
