'This is not a bureaucratic solution': No need for NSW building commission, Chandler tells inquiry

August 16, 2019. Newly-appointed NSW building commissioner David Chandler speaks in Sydney at state parliament’s inquiry into building standards, quality and disputes about calls for a building commission. The upper house hearing was established following the Mascot and Opal Tower incidents. Mr Chandler says NSW does not need a formal building commission like some other states. "This is not a bureaucratic solution, this is not going to require a heavy hand of government, this is not going to require a huge amount of legislation," he tells the inquiry.
