Nappy-wearing Koala walks around while recovering

Flash the koala soaked up some sunshine and enjoyed a waddle around the yard in his nappy at a Port Stephens koala sanctuary in New South Wales, on January 11. Flash was recovering from burn wounds sustained in the Hillville bushfire near Taree, on the New South Wales Mid-North Coast, months earlier. “Here’s Flash enjoying the sunshine and getting some exercise. Every morning he knows his routine. As soon as he walks out of his enclosure his carer takes his nappy off, inspects his rather nasty radiant burn on his bottom, treats it and applies a new clean nappy all of which is done while he’s walking as it’s so much easier (for him not his carer) and he barely notices,” a Facebook post from the sanctuary said. More than 1 billion animals were estimated to have died in Australia due to an intense bushfire season from late 2019 into early 2020, according to estimates made by the University of Sydney.
