Polestar bills their upcoming 5, a sedan based on the Precept concept, as a four-door grand tourer. The concept already boasted the size and stunning style you expect from a GT, so big power delivered smoothly was the next natural addition. That power, as it turns out, will be very big: The Polestar 5 will feature a new electric powertrain targeting 884 horsepower.

The power will come from a dual-motor powertrain built on 800-volt architecture. It targets 884 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque, making the car substantially more powerful than any previous Polestar product. By contrast, the most powerful existing all-electric Polestar produces 408 hp from a dual motor setup. The Polestar 1, which the Polestar 5 effectively replaces as the brand's flagship grand tourer, produced a combined 600 hp from hybrid powertrain.

Polestar is showcasing the current 5 concept at Goodwood all week. That car will be running up the famous Festival of Speed hill climb twice a day throughout the event as part of a uniquely transparent rollout. Polestar has also been documenting the process of turning the Precept into a road car in a series on YouTube.

Although the new 800-volt architecture is currently only confirmed for the four-door 5 based on the Precept concept, the same powertrain would be a logical inclusion in any production car based on the o2 convertible shown as a concept earlier this year. While the Precept was unique as a four-door grand tourer, the 02 takes the same design language and applies it to a more traditional two-door convertible GT. Between the modular nature of the 5's bonded aluminum spaceframe and the theoretically-reusable elements of this powertrain, Polestar may already possess most of what they need to build the o2 after the 5.
