Formula 1

This is the fastest, most expensive and glamorous racing series in the world. Open-wheel cars push the limits of technology and human performance thanks to ultra-high-revving 2.4-litre V8 engines. Drivers control dozens of parameters about how the car reacts through various points on the track, requiring huge amount of skill and courage. Since in-race refueling was banned four years ago, pit stops for four tires are now entering the sub-three-second range while McLaren set a world's fastest swap of only 2.31 seconds during the 2012 at Hockenheim, Germany.Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel is now a triple World Champion however his season was nowhere near as dominant as in 2011-'12. In fact, it took until the fourth race of the year in Bahrain before he took his first win and then a four-race streak (Singapore, Japan, Korea and India) late in the season. The driver's championship between him and Ferrari ace Fernando Alonso came down to the finale race in Brazil and Vettel barely squeaked away with the title. Alonso proved that he can drive the pants off of anything given how badly the Ferraris were behind the game last year.Other neat facts: seven different drivers won the first seven races, and Kimi Raikkonen, back after a few years off, was third in the championship race despite driving a Lotus-Renault and only winning one race (Abu Dhabi) late in the year.
