007’s Lotus Esprit submarine car sold at auction

For the first time in its history, the Lotus Esprit Submarine Car from the James Bond 007 film The Spy Who Loved Me has gone up for auction, selling for a whopping £550,000 (approx. $863,830/€650,995) at the RM Auctions London Sale at the St James Concours of Elegance, London, on Sunday September 9. The final price was a little under its £1million guide, but still a hefty amount for one of cinema's most iconic vehicles.  An unnamed telephone bidder eventually took home the prized piece, though there's good news for Bond fans everywhere: the car's sale has prompted some beautiful photography and lots more detail to emerge about the ride.
