Concept cars that should have been made

15 awesome prototypes that deserved production

As extravagant and detailed as they may seem, spinning away on their barricaded platforms, the concept of concept cars is actually quite simple: think of an idea or something new, turn that idea into reality, and gauge the response. Sometimes this less-than-scientific process yields amazing automobiles. Sometimes the resulting production model is a total flop (see the Pontiac Aztek for further details). Other times, the cars receive positive reactions, but the cars are rolled back behind the curtains, never to be seen again. Imagine what the Corvette of today would have looked like, if General Motors had steered away from the traditional front-engine layout with this, the Indy Concept (pictured) of ’86? Looking back over the past 30 years, though, here’s a list of 15 concept and show vehicles that we think should have been available in a showroom near you.
