Drift!

As far as cars are concerned, there are few things more dramatic than watching an automobile drift. While most driving is done in a straight line, drifting is all about getting sideways. This occurs when the car’s rear tires lose traction and the car begins to skid. The driver then maintains the skid by delicately adjusting throttle and steering to remain in control of the vehicle. Drifting isn’t easy – it takes skill to walk the fine line between being drifting and spinning out, but when done right the results are spectacular. Over the years, drifting has risen in popularity; it’s become an officially sanctioned motorsport, has inspired television programs and movies, and is a part of modern automotive culture. In honour of drifters around the world, we’ve put together 30 photographs of cars burning rubber for show.
