HUGE GALLERY: 2015 Factory 5 Cruise at Main Street Huntington Beach

Every year the Factory 5 racers have a show in downtown Huntington Beach on Main Street. The streets are shut down and a few hundred Factory 5 Cobras, Daytona coupes, ’33 roadsters and coupes, and Factory 5 Supercars converge for a street scene. This is the 8th year and looked to be the largest turnout yet.

What used to be the provenance of small block Fords in keeping with the Cobra roadster heritage has been broadened to include lots of modular motors and even a few Coyote engines were spotted. Everything from carburetors to superchargers of all types, and turbos were in evidence. Guests included Pete Brock, who as a designer for Shelby was largely responsible for the Daytona coupe variant of the Cobra, and Allen Grant, who is a member of the world-champion Shelby-Ford cobra Racing Team that won the 1965 FIA World Championship with the coupe. Both were there to help celebrate the Cobra legacy and to sign autographs. HOT ROD was also there with swag and subscriptions, and to give out the Editors Choice Award.

The quaint setting is literally a stone’s throw from the sands of Huntington Beach, and Main Street itself becomes the famous Huntington Beach pier once you cross Pacific Coast Highway. For years this was the surf ghetto and ground zero for So Cal surf culture and surfers, which is why it’s known as Surf City today.
