2016 Maserati Alfieri sports car confirmed for production

Maserati has confirmed that it will put the Alfieri concept car into production in 2016, revealing a production schedule of the models it will launch over the next few years. The Maserati Alfieriwas first unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, as part of the celebrations of the Italian marque’s 100th anniversary. The Alfieri is named after one of the Maserati brothers, who formed the company back in 1914 — although it’s unclear at this stage whether this name will be used for the production version. When the concept was initially revealed, Maserati said: “the Alfieri boasts proportions that might well be archetypal for a future Gran Sport,” a name the firm has used before.Whatever it’s called, the new car will not be replacing the existing Maserati GranTurismo, as the firm has also revealed an all-new one of these is slated for 2018. Instead, the Alfieri’s design will form the basis of a new, smaller, more sporting model, which is likely to be aimed directly at the Jaguar F-Type.
