Seven things to check before driving this winter

1. Winter tires

Install a set of four winter tires on your car. Although all-wheel drive improves traction for acceleration, it doesn't help you stop or steer if you're riding on all-season tires in -20 C weather. In fact, all-season tires begin losing their effectiveness at 7 C, so strap on those winter boots for drastically better traction and stopping power in snow, on ice and at sub-zero temperatures. Also be sure to check tire pressure regularly: too high and you lose traction, too low and it costs you fuel efficiency.
