Jeep Patriot

Retained value: 51 per cent Eager to exploit a bankable brand, DaimlerChrysler expanded its Jeep lineup in 2007 by adding the Compass and Patriot twins. For the first time in its seven-decade history, Jeep had birthed a crossover – actually, a pair that shared their DNA with the Dodge Caliber. Like the Compass, the Patriot is a five-door wagon, but with a more upright body and styling that looks derivative of the Liberty. It features an optional all-wheel-drive system (front-drive is standard) that offers an extra low gear in its Japanese-built continuously variable automatic transmission, although the system isn’t designed for serious off-roading.
