There have been exploding gas tanks (Ford and its fire-balling Pinto), fraudulent reporting (NBC Dateline's report of General Motors' pickups or 60 Minutes' take on Audi's unintended acceleration issues) and conspiracy theories (the famous 100-mpg Pogue carburetor).
