Drivers will soon be able to control their Volvo remotely through their Apple Watch, thanks to an updated application from the automaker.

Traditionally, the Volvo on Call app has allowed users to access features of their car remotely from a smartphone, but not from wearable technology. A new version of the app will allow drivers to perform many functions right from their wrist, including locking or unlocking the doors and checking fuel levels. Drivers can even use their smartwatches to locate their car in a crowded parking garage, set the ideal temperature before they hop inside, or send directions from their wrist to the car's navigation system.

Volvo is the latest in a slew of automakers to marry Apple Watches and cars. Porsche jumped on the opportunity recently using its Porsche Car Connect app, while Volkswagen also joined the fray with its Car-Net platform. Mercedes-Benz has also introduced smartwatch-compatible technology through the MB Companion App.

Other than the Apple Watch, Volvo on Call will also be compatible with Android Wear, a full iPad user interface, and a unified Windows Phone app with voice control through Cortana. The updated Volvo on Call system will be released by the end of June, and will adopt the same user interface as what we'll see in the upcoming Volvo XC90.
