'Toy Story 4' opens big but below expectations

"Toy Story 4" topped this weekend's box office earning US$118 million. But the animated film did not surpass Disney's high expectations. Disney predicted that the latest Pixar film could earn up to $140 million domestically in its debut weekend. "Toy Story 4" picked up another $120 million overseas for a global opening of $238 million. The film however has been widely well received, garnering a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In 2010, "Toy Story 3" earned $110 million in its opening weekend. "Toy Story 4" is the third film this year to cross the $100 million mark in its first weekend, trailing only a pair of other Disney releases: "Avengers: Endgame" and "Captain Marvel". "The Lion King" and "Spider-Man: Far From Home" are both hoping to join the group when they premiere next month.
