A mum has revealed the heartbreaking reason she was motivated to shed half her body weight and adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Juliet Lundie, 46, weighed 26st and was a size 26 when she was at her heaviest just two years ago.

Food was her "crutch" and she spent years eating sugary snacks and fatty foods, and even ate "shamefully" in secret.

She was inspired to lose a drastic amount of weight when her mother-in-law's death in April 2015 served as a "wake up call", Kent Live reports.

She said: "Seeing my husband suffer at losing a parent caused me to consider how my own children would cope if I were to die.

"And then I realised that my current lifestyle was potentially catapulting me to an early grave.

"This was a problem that could not be covered up by baggy jeans and a feisty attitude. I was genuinely terrified. I had to confront that fear."

Juliet, of Hawkinge, Kent, added: "I had just buried myself in denial, ignoring the doctors warnings and defying anyone who challenged me. There were many incidents in my life where my weight was a hindrance but none of this spurred me to make a change.

She joined the Cambridge Weight Plan and over a year lost an amazing 12st - half her weight - and slimmed down to a svelte size 12.

She said: "Cambridge was my last resort, I had tried and failed on so many other plans but a close friend had successfully lost weight thought the plan and kept it off for several years so I was encouraged.

"Life has changed for the better since losing weight. My health has improved and I am so active now. I do Zumba three times a week. I walk, sometimes run, and I revel in how much more easily and comfortably my body moves.

"But most of all, I am no longer afraid. I feel liberated and free to participate in activities with my children. I don't make excuses anymore, I don't need to.

"I thought the best thing in losing weight would be looking good, wearing smaller clothes but it's not. It's in feeling good, being proud of my achievements and feeling free."

Now, having stayed at her target weight for an entire year, she has trained to become a Cambridge Weight Plan consultant herself.
