On November 30th, a FedEx delivery man drove onto Athena's father's property to deliver a package of what was supposed to be a Christmas present for our daughter. This is the package. It's the first time I'm seeing it. The packages containing 'You Can Be Anything' Barbies. Athena was robbed of the opportunity to grow up to be anything she wanted to be. And this present ordered out of innocence and love is one she will never receive. Athena's favorite holiday was Christmas, as it is for many children everywhere. The joy of Athena gave her family and the joy she felt on Christmas is something we will never feel with her again."5. Various of Barbies box6. Walmart box++WHITE FLASH++7. I will never be able to do her hair again or to hold her while she sleeps. I was robbed of watching her grow up by a man that everyone was supposed to be able to trust to do just one simple task: deliver a Christmas present and leave."8. STILL image of Athena Strand taken at makeshift memorialSTORYLINE:The mother of a 7-year-old Texas girl who authorities say was abducted and killed in Texas by a FedEx delivery driver says the man was delivering one of the girl's Christmas presents that day. Maitlyn Gandy, Athena Strand's mother, made the comments Thursday during a news conference in Wise County where she stood next to box of "You Can Be Anything" Barbies, the item delivered Nov. 30."Athena was robbed of the opportunity to grow up to be anything she wanted to be. In this present ordered out of innocence and love is one she will never receive. Athena's favorite holiday was Christmas, as it is for many children everywhere. The joy of being away from her family and the joy she felt on Christmas is something we will never feel with her again."Athena Strand was found dead, two days after she was reported missing from the home of her father and stepmother in Paradise, Texas, a town of fewer than 500 people about 60 miles (100 kilometers) northwest of Dallas.Tanner Lynn Horner, a FedEx delivery driver, was arrested and remained jailed Thursday on charges of capital murder and aggravated kidnapping.Authorities have not said how Athena died but Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said investigators believe she died shortly after she was kidnapped. The sheriff has said Horner did not know the family.===========================================================Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: info@aparchive.com(ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
