Big Tech: What Toronto learned from the defunct deal with Sidewalk Labs

Sidewalk Labs was supposed to transform Toronto’s eastern waterfront into a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly, high tech hub. But Sidewalk Labs, owned by the parent company of Google, wanted more land than the city was willing or able to give – so Sidewalk pulled out and left town. Author and journalist Josh O’Kane has a new book, “Sideways, The City Google Couldn’t Buy”, about the lessons and consequences of standing up to big tech.
