On Sunday soon after 4 p.m. Environment Canada began tracking what it described as “a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado” and could affect Biggar, Springwater, Handel and Kelfield. The agency said in its warning that wind damage, large hail and very heavy rainfall are possible.

The possible tornado has been spotted on radar near Handel, moving in the east at around 50 kilometres per hour.

Additionally, Environment Canada issued a tornado watch for Saskatoon, saying conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms in the city, which could evolve into tornadoes.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been put in place for the Kindersley, Tramping Lake, Broadacres, Kerrobert and Luseland areas.

Locals are advised to get to cover immediately if threatening weather — including hearing a roaring sound or seeing a funnel cloud or swirling debris — nears. In a tornado situation, a room on the lowest floor of a home, away from outside walls and windows, should be sought out.

To report severe weather email ec.storm.ec@canada.ca or tweet using the hashtag #SKStorm.
