In a 3-2 loss to Edmonton on Thursday, New Jersey Devils forward Brian Boyle scored his first goal since being diagnosed with myeloid leukemia in September.

Understandably, emotions ran high for Boyle, who said he cried after the goal.

“I’ve never cried after a goal before. It’s a lot. It’s everything,” he said during the first intermission. “These guys, my wife, my kids, they’ve been through a lot too. … It’s a good feeling.”

Boyle, who has played five games this season, and the Devils (9-4-2) return to the ice Saturday against the Panthers (4-8-2).
