Flight 6738 departed from Paris on Tuesday evening and was scheduled to land in Chicago. Around 9 p.m. AT, an emergency was declared on board and the flight diverted to Halifax. The Boeing 777 landed around 9:35 p.m. without incident.

Peter Spurway with Stanfield International said one of the plane's two engines was not functioning but was still capable of flying.

He said crews prepared for an emergency landing, and it's not uncommon to have these types of emergency landings.

Emergency crews and firefighters have since been told to stand down.

There's no word on what happened to the engine.
