Leaders focus attacks as advance polls open, election day draws near

Andrew Scheer had his eyes on the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday, teasing what he called promising early results from advance polls and spelling out his plans for the first 100 days of a Conservative government in Ottawa. The man he aims to replace, Justin Trudeau, continued to deride the Tories for proposing some $53 billion in spending cuts — and he did it wearing a protective vest and surrounded by armed officers after a security threat briefly disrupted the Liberal campaign. In Brampton, Ont., Jagmeet Singh took aim at a peril that always dogs the New Democrats in the last week of an election campaign: the perception that a vote for the NDP gives oxygen to the Conservatives.
