Renowned designer recreates 1919 Winnipeg on Rainbow Stage

Strike the Musical will take Winnipeg audiences back 100 years to the Vulcan Iron Works. Workers at the dark, dim factory put in 10-hour days for 50 cents an hour in deplorable conditions. The factory and other scenes from 1919 Winnipeg were recreated for Rainbow Stage by Douglas Paraschuk, design co-ordinator for the Stratford Festival, whose credits include the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Strike the Musical is based on the events of the Winnipeg General Strike and is hitting Rainbow Stage to mark the centenary of the massive labour action that changed Canada.
