Trudeau repeats stance on SNC-Lavalin affair

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is repeating his line that it’s a prime minister’s responsibility to “stand up for jobs” and to protect families and retirees. During an event Monday in Quebec City, Trudeau says he will do it in a way that upholds the independence of the judicial system and of prosecutors. Last week, a report by ethics watchdog Mario Dion concluded that Trudeau violated the Conflict of Interest Act by improperly pressuring former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to stop a criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin on corruption charges.
