TIMING: WEDNESDAY

The leading edge of the low will start to spread snow across the province starting early Wednesday morning.

"Snowfall rates will likely increase for southern regions including Montreal and Gatineau as the day progresses," says Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg.

As the warm front advances north, snow will transition to freezing rain and ice pellets through the evening for the Ottawa valley and into Montreal and the southern Eastern Townships. The ice risk will spread north through the St. Lawrence valley through the overnight into Quebec City.

THURSDAY

Behind the freezing rain and ice pellets, Montreal will transition to straight rain early Thursday morning.

"The Eastern Townships can expect periods of moderate rain through the day on Thursday leading to a slushy mess and the risk for flooding due to the previous system dropping 25-35 cm and likely blocking storm drains," warns Sonnenburg.

As the system pulls away from the province, a shot of mixing or snow can be expected in Montreal and much of southern Quebec through the afternoon as temperatures once again fall into the evening hours.

SNOWFALL AND RAIN TOTALS

  • 10-20 cm Gatineau, Ottawa, Quebec City
  • 5-10 cm Montreal and Eastern Townships with 10-20 mm of rain, less rain along the St. Lawrence River
  • 10-20+ Gaspe Peninsula
